Dive into the heartwarming narrative of Tanah Gajah, Bali's luxurious haven, as Mrs. Puri Hadiprana and Sekaraya Hadiprana illuminate their mission to uphold the cherished legacy of their family.
In an exclusive interview with Channel News Asia Luxury, Mrs. Puri Hadiprana and Sekaraya Hadiprana unveil the captivating story behind Tanah Gajah, a luxury resort nestled in the serene landscapes of Ubud, Bali. As the custodians of their family patriarch’s cherished legacy, the mother-and-daughter duo provide a glimpse into the profound connection between the resort and the illustrious Hadiprana family.
Originally envisioned by renowned Indonesian architect Hendra Hadiprana, Tanah Gajah is a manifestation of his passion for art and Indonesian culture. Sekaraya fondly reminisces about her childhood adventures at the resort, while Puri recalls the joyous festivities hosted by her father, including enchanting Kecak Dance performances.
Following Hendra's passing, Sekaraya and Puri decided to reclaim management of the resort, rebranding it in 2020 as Tanah Gajah, a Resort by Hadiprana. Upholding Hendra’s legacy, they infuse the property with timeless elegance and a deep reverence for Indonesian heritage.
Hendra's architectural prowess and love for art are evident throughout Tanah Gajah, which seamlessly blends traditional elements with modern design principles. Puri reflects on her father's unwavering dedication to Indonesia and its rich cultural heritage, emphasizing the profound impact he has left on Bali.
After graduating from an architecture school in the Netherlands, he returned to Indonesia in 1957 to build his own firm.
“While he was offered opportunities to work abroad, he chose to return to Indonesia, driven by an unshakeable belief in the nation's potential. Despite the uncertainties and challenges, he remained resolute, guided by his love for Indonesia and its rich cultural heritage,” shared Puri.
Sekaraya, now overseeing the resort's branding and retail operations, shares how her grandfather’s teachings have shaped her worldview and instilled a deep appreciation for Indonesian culture. Together with Puri, who manages the resort's art gallery and arts center, they carry forward Hendra's vision of enriching lives through art and hospitality.
As Puri eloquently states, "The significance of upholding my father's legacy lies in the profound impact he has made on Indonesia, particularly in Bali."
With unwavering dedication, Sekaraya and Puri ensure that Tanah Gajah remains a cherished sanctuary, inviting guests to experience the magic of Indonesian hospitality and cultural heritage.
